Daughters

I've been finding myself overwhelmed lately with the thought of raising two daughters. I remember growing up that there was so much pressure on me from the world (and even in the church sometimes) to do so many things contrary to the what the Bible teaches. I'm finding that the pressure to have premarital sex is only rising from where it was when I was in high school. The skirts now a days are even shorter than just 5 years ago, and the same goes for the shirts. Walking around the mall I am flooded with images of scantily clad women in suggestive poses in what seems like every window display. Not to mention looking around at what all the teen girls are wearing. I have to wonder, do they know what message they are sending to the men passing by? Do they know God values each and every one of them for WHO they are and not what they wear or what they give to men? My heart breaks for them and for my little Emily and the one I have growing inside. My heart aches to know how strong they will have to be to resist the temptations of the world and stand firm in the Lord. What a challenge to me as a mom to raise these girls!

I read this today on my A Woman After God's Own Heart calendar:
As mothers, we cannot impart what we do not possess,
so it is vital that you and I nurture a fierce passion for God's Word
and wisdom in our own heart.

I am challenged today with "we cannot impart what we do not possess". Wow have I got some work to do! As I look at the challenge before me in raising two girls I realize that I need to make sure that my relationship with the Lord is fine tuned and everything that it is supposed to be so that I can raise my girls to be women after God's own heart.

Amy I personaly think that you are stressing about nothing. I am sure it will be tuff. HOWEVER, I also believe that with you and stewart as parents they will be raised noing what is right and what is wrong and how to decied between the two. All you can do is do your best and pray that they are really listening when you are talking. As far as Emliy goes I think your doing a GREAT job!!! :):)
Love you

Amy, you are going to be the best mom! I'm sure having two girls is a lot to worry about. I can't even imagine what my mom would have had to deal with if I'd have had a sister! But I'm sure you will be great! :)

Amy,
It is soooooo good that you are thinking about this now. You can be praying for your girls hearts NOW, and for the wisdom to teach them, starting very young, about modesty. It can be done. It doesn't have to be a battle. All those things that most people expect to be a battle, don't have to be a battle. Start praying about it now. Start relating and talking (and talking, and talking!) now, so they get used to having a mom that they can talk about everything with! Shopping for clothes with my daughter who is 17, has been a challenge because there is not much to choose from. But we have always made those trips (fall and spring) a big deal...a day at the mall with lunch, and we've made it a fun thing. We talk about the clothes and what message they may send. It has actually turned into a really neat time together of making choices. I also have so much fun helping her find cute things, that are stylish, yet modest as well. I think I get as excited about our "finds" as she does! I have a great modesty check list if you would like a copy. I know it seems early, as your daughters are so little, but like I said, pray now and have a biblically based game plan. God will bless that!
You seem like you have such a heart for the Lord, and doing it His way. I know you will be blessed for that!
God bless!

You go girl. God layed this on your heart and he will see you through it. Seek Him and he will show you the way. Your girls will be so blessed to have a mother who cares as deeply as you!
