New rules

So, I finally have my computer back and I am beyond excited to have this convenience again! I felt so disconnected from the world last week! That being said, I realized that I spend WAY too much time on the computer. As much as the computer is a necessary tool for communication now a days, I definitely need to cut back my time on it. I had already limited my time, but after going without I realized just how much I got accomplished without the distraction. I read my bible more often (which has been SUCH a blessing), got more housework done, played with my kids longer, stayed away from gossip, spent more time with my husband, had more energy, etc. So, I've made up some rules for myself concerning computer time. Check it out:

~I will not go on the computer when the kids are awake (exception: necessary e-mails).

~I will not go on the computer until my bible reading is done!

~I will limit my computer time to 30 minutes a day.

~Philippians 4:8 states 'Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there be any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy-meditate on these things'. I will not read anything that does not measure up to that standard.

Speaking of new rules, I recently decided to follow the same guideline above for TV watching. What a waste of time! I've also found that television shows really do effect my relationships, especially with my husband. How many shows out there portray men in a respectable light? Not many. How many shows out there are about adultery, sex, money, power, murder, deceit, drunkenness, gambling, etc.? A lot! Pretty much the rule of thumb around here will be sports only. Even watching sports the commercials can get you. Well, that's about all for now, I'll be posting some pictures/videos of the girls soon. Have a great Wednesday!

Great rules, Amy! This is inspiring to me! I've been trying to shut the computer completely off for periods of time during the day, but I could definitely do better. I like the idea of not going on it until I've read the Bible. That would be a good one for me. And the TV, we've just been discussing this week about moving the TV armoire out of the living room which would definitely cut out the mindless channel surfing when we're bored. I'm hoping this weekend we can get things rearranged! I'm excited for some change around here!
