Weekly Memory Verse

I have decided to join in on the weekly verse memorization that Sarah hosts over at In Light of the Truth. I did AWANA when I was growing up and always remember memorizing scripture. What a great program to instill God's Word in young people's heart starting from age 5 on through high school! Since those days though, there hasn't been much memorizing going on here. I am thankful for my foundation in memorizing verses and also thankful that I actually retained some of the memorized verses in this aging noggin' of mine. However, I have been challenged lately about continuing on with my memorization. Our pastor at church has been speaking from John 15&16 for quite a few months now, and one of the key points we have been talking about is abiding in Christ. Our pastor listed, from John 15, how we abide in Christ. "If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you." ~John 15:7 One of the ways we abide in Christ is to hide God's word in our hearts. And why do we need to abide in Christ? So that "we should not be made to stumble" (John 16:1), and so that "My joy might remain in you, and that your joy may be made full" (John 15:11). I have been challenged with these verses lately and with this whole passage that our pastor has been speaking on. I need to get back into the habit of hiding God's word in my heart. Not just for my own spiritual walk, but as a parent, for my children's sake as well. So, thank you Sarah for hosting this challenge! This week's verse is:

Proverbs 3:5-6
Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding.
In all your ways acknowledge Him,and He will make your paths straight.

Yay! Glad you're joining me with memory verses! It always helps motivate me when I know others are doing it too!

Hey today's scripture is one of the few I know. This one is on my wall - framed. Good one!
I agree with your blog fully. I also need to get some scripture tucked away in me brain.
